British Values

IMG_0928

As a school, we pay close attention to the events that are going on in the world around us.  We learn about the five core British Values.  We think about how those British Values are reflected in the way that we treat each otehr in school and in the wider community.

The five values are :

Democracy

The Rule of Law

Individual Liberty

Mutual Respect

Tolerance

Our children belong to several communities - their family, our school family, their local community, Britain and a wider global community.  We teach the British Values alongside our school values and focus on the values as pairs to highlight the children's place in the wider community and their role in making it a positive community to belong to.

Respect is the key value that links both school and British values.  We teach Tolerance together with Friendship and Kindness - we teach our children to extend the hand of kindness beyond their immediate friendship group and to welcome new members of the community.  Democracy is paired with courage - children are taught to be corageous when standing up for what they believe is right.  The Rule of Law is paired with Resilience - following the rules takes self control and determination at times.  Individual Liberty is paired with responsibility.  Whilst all members of our community have individual choices, they take responsibility for those choices.
